From Farm to Fame

The story of Dulan’s Roadside Kitchen began long before our trucks ever hit the road. It started in 1984, when Adolf and Mary Dulan, affectionately remembered as the heart and soul behind a new era of Los Angeles dining, opened their beloved Aunt Kizzy’s Back Porch Soul Food Restaurant. Adolf, lovingly known throughout the community as the “King of Soul Food,” and Mary set out to serve delicious, home-style meals made with love, pride, and genuine Southern hospitality.

Over time, the Dulan name became synonymous with generous portions, authentic Southern cooking, and a true sense of community. Their restaurants were never just places to eat — they were gathering spots where families came together, friends reconnected, and everyone left feeling like family.

That proud legacy continues with Greg Dulan — a second-generation restaurateur, Howard University graduate, and experienced business owner — who has spent more than 30 years leading and growing the family’s restaurant and catering operations. In 1992, Greg opened Dulan’s on Crenshaw, establishing one of Los Angeles’s most beloved destinations for Soul Food. Today, he owns three family-style Soul Food restaurants under the names Dulan’s on Crenshaw and Dulan’s Soul Food Kitchen, which continue to uphold the Dulan tradition of flavor, consistency, and heartfelt hospitality.

Over the years, Greg also expanded into high-volume mobile catering and food distribution, becoming known as an expert in efficiently serving large communities without sacrificing quality. This experience inspired his newest and boldest venture — Dulan’s Roadside Kitchen.

As the family’s reach grew, Greg realized that while people across California and beyond love Dulan’s Soul Food, it was too expensive and too risky to open new brick-and-mortar locations in distant cities. Yet loyal customers continued to crave the comforting taste of Dulan’s food. That challenge inspired a smarter, more sustainable way to share it.

Dulan’s Roadside Kitchen delivers restaurant-quality, heat-and-serve Soul Food meals to surrounding communities via mobile refrigerated trucks and a DoorDash partnership for convenient online ordering and delivery. Each meal is freshly prepared daily in our Los Angeles Kitchen — never frozen — sealed with our company seal, and ready to heat in four minutes or less. These same meals are also available at select Supermarkets, making it easier than ever for families to enjoy authentic Dulan’s food at home.

Our menu features Southern favorites like meatloaf, baked chicken, smothered pork chops, BBQ ribs, oxtails, and short ribs of beef, served with collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and a cornbread muffin. We also offer additional à la carte items, including candied yams, black-eyed peas, peach cobbler, sweet potato pie, sweet tea, and more.

Each Dulan’s Roadside Kitchen truck is operated by a two-person team that participates in a profit-sharing program, creating opportunities for entrepreneurship and pride in every plate served.

Now celebrating 51 years in business and honored with the 2025 L.A. Times Gold Award, the Dulan family continues to lead with heart, history, and innovation — serving authentic Soul Food made with love — one city, one meal, and one satisfied customer at a time.
